Word 2 - Man-Made

Updated: Sep 15, 2020

For this I focused on metals and materials as they are staples of what is 'Man-Made', unlike something that is ultimately natural and only used my man, such as wood for instance.

My favourite images here are the first four, as they show not only the detail of the wear and tear of their surfaces, but also they are the best in this compilation of images at showing their shape and depth; especially with the second images, which beautifully shows the curling shape of the metal and the fading, flaking paint that surrounds it.

In contrast, certain images in this shoot lack such details, such as that of the 'black and white cover' of the 8th row, which lacks any shape or shading, and so serves only as a plain flat surface with little physical presence. Similarly, the image above it is ruined by the unsatisfying area in the bottom right, in which a patterned shadow is cast over its surface, detracting from the intended focus on the texture.

I also thought to include an image of a road's surface, as the modern tarmac of a road is one of the most common and recognisable examples of man's creations, spanning across countries and continents in a network pattern reminiscent of a spider's web.
